About the wine
A succulent, stylish, and ultra rare South African white merlot
- Using exceptional fruit from South Africa’s Houwhoek Mountains that only a very select few can get hold of, Kobie has made you a super rare white merlot.
- It shows classical bright and moreish merlot flavours with a perfectly balanced finish that sings with elegance from the first sip to the last.
- The moment the wine hits your glass, you’ll notice mouth watering aromas of apple blossom, vanilla, and citrus, which then followed by succulent but pleasingly mellow flavours of pear, mandarin, fresh pastry and almonds.
Best before
This wine can easily handle maturation. Colour will slowly evolve into more copper and then later on to gold. But the longevity of the palate will carry it for 8 - 12 years from vintage without any disappointment.
Serving advice
Best served at 10°C.
Food match
Great with any kind of hearty stew. My favourite
is a stew we make here in the Cape called
"Waterblommetjie bredie" - translated to "Water
flower stew".
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Kobie and Faisal
- Kobie was head winemaker at South Africa’s ancient Spier winery, with the oldest wine cellar in the land. Faisal was the business brains that transformed Spier into the nation’s most medalled winery in the 1990s.
- They bought a vineyard right next door to Spier, and for years sold them their grapes, which went into Spier’s top-of-the-range boutique wines.
- Angel backing now means they use their own grapes to make a range of game-changing wines that have become cult classics at Naked. If you like trying new wines that make you go, ‘where has this been all my life?’, you’ll love Kobie & Faisal.
