A very smooth red with great depth of flavour. After 17 years there were still tannins at the bottom of the bottle but I would drink this now. I don't think it will age much longer.

Just read your note - amazing . I have bottles stashed away - currently out of reach ! - but I must open a bottle. This wine had substantial structure when young and is a very true reflection of terroir which is in site of the Etruscan town of Volterra - I always liked to think we were following in those ancient traditions !

I reported this a while ago and had my second bottle yesterday: What I said before was: "Sadly I think I might have got a bottle that should have been drunk a while ago. It was on the way out. Acidic and metallic. It might have been just my bottle - the cork looked OK - but I tried a couple of glasses with a day between then 2/3 went down the sink.
Sorry for the poor feedback Jonathan - it is not meant to be discouraging.
I look forward to trying another of your wines."
Well the second bottle was better but certainly on the way out. It was OK to drink just but quite musty. Mmmmm? Thoughts?

Thats a shame. Have an 06, which should last for ages, but will drink soon. Must be galling to hold a wine and it is poor

That's life. Not complaining though as this is a very rare occurrence.

Hi Bill. The corks weren't very good on this vintage and the mustiness you describe sounds like cork taint. Saying that, I did ask JR about when to drink the 05 vintage up back in mid 2013, and he recommended within the next six months from then so it may well have gone over by now regardless of any cork issues. I had an 07 Borgo Saletta a couple of months back and decided it was still a bit young. I must open another soon to see how it is getting on.

Mixed views from our dinner party of 6; 2 loved it, 2 thought it was good with the steaks, though pretty heavy, 2 didn't like it at all.

Two years on I have been extremely lucky and the wine is still great, sadly after tonight it is all gone :-(

I have just opened my first of the 2007 vintage of this wine and it is an absolute belter. More cab franc influence, greater acidity and elegance. Just brilliant.

I found some of this lurking at the back of my wine fridge when I was searching for something interesting to partner a traditional roast beef lunch. Having read the very mixed reviews I decided to have a bottle of shiraz on standby.
Sadly the cork crumbled away and the contents were vinegary and I joined the ranks of the disappointed. However, I have one more bottle which could be excellent!!!

Unfortunately went down the sink... The signs weren't great when the (very dry) cork snapped whilst trying to open... Tasted acidic and left a horrible coating in the mouth - left it to fully breathe for an hour to make sure, and it just got worse!!!
