Adam describes his Icon Reserve Shiraz as the pinnacle of his winemaking. He only produces a teeny-tiny amount each year, seeking to create a wine that is true to its vintage, region and his style.

It’s made using select parcels of high-quality fruit from three of Australia’s most revered Shiraz growing regions. The Barossa Valley for opulence and intensity, McLaren Vale for powerful fruit flavours and firm tannins that give the wine complexity and backbone, and Clare Valley for concentrated fruit with elegant flavours, structure, and acidity, giving balance to the richness of the Barossa & McLaren Vale.

Overall it’s a rich and powerful red with intense aromas of blackberry, plum and dark chocolate, with hints of vanilla, cedar, mint and anise. The opulent palate of rich forest fruits is supported by tobacco, mocha and sweet spice. While the rich texture, soft tannins and powerful structure lead to a lingering finish.

Meet the winemaker - Adam Barton

Adam first got into winemaking in 2001 and after a few years of hard graft for iconic brands like Wynns Coonawarra and Bonny Doon in the USA and Oz, he finally took the leap to go it alone in 2008. On his own, he made some absolutely stellar wines that got rave reviews from the critics and his new set-up was even named one of the Top 10 Best New Wineries by legendary Aussie wine boff James Halliday.

Then in 2012, Adam heard about Naked Wines and our mission to shake-up the wine industry. And the more he heard about how we work and our lovely Angels, the more he wanted to be a part of it. He popped us an email and the rest is history... since going Naked, Adam’s career has gone from strength to strength and he now wows over 300,000 UK Angels with top-quality exclusive wines. He’s eternally grateful for your support.

The reason Adam’s kit is so special is because of his attention to detail. He learned early on that to make the best kit you need the best fruit and that means knowing the vineyard intimately. Every single grape he uses is either from his own vineyard or from the close-knit family of local growers he’s worked with for over 10 years.

There’s a lot going on here, but it’s subtle and takes its time to fully emerge. Blackcurrant, plum, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry all in there, with tobacco and wood in the background. Long finish brings mocha and more wood.

A full bodied red wine full of tastes of dark red fruit. A hint of chocolate and vanilla, and later a hint of spice. A lovely drink.
We loved this wine, had saved it for a special occasion and were not disappointed. Let it breathe a couple of hours which mellowed and enhanced the flavours.

I'm enjoying this Shiraz a lot. Deep ruby colour. A complex wine. High acidity with a persistent finish. Soft tannins. Pronounced on the nose. Notes of blackberry, blueberry, oak, vanilla, chocolate, spice. Delicious.
Easy to drink. Too easy even 🤭. Nice flavour. One to definitely get again, shame it has sold out. Will definitely keep an eye out for the next vintage.

Really loved this, didnt take forever to breath, wasnt overly heavy but the flavours were powerful and amazing. Definetly worth every penny
