When Kieron got his hands on a lovely parcel of slightly riper Bacchus and some really good Pinot Noir, he knew he was onto a winner.

Unlike many pale rosés that look good in the glass but lack much character, by using mostly Bacchus with just a smidge of Pinot Noir, Kieron has produced a beautiful rosé with excellent colour, flavour, and bags of character. It’s super dry, fresh as a daisy, and the very hedgerow-y, elderflower character of the Bacchus really pulls it along.

“It’s a beautiful pale pink colour. On the nose, raspberries, strawberries, a little bit of cantaloupe melon. The palate has more of the same really. It’s bone dry, and what it does have is lovely red apple texture, so you get that citrus, you get that melon, a little bit of red apple, bit of raspberry, bit of strawberry, it’s tasting beautifully.” Kieron, winemaker.

Drink now to 2027 - the red fruit flavour will develop and soften, so it depends on what style of rosé that you prefer, fresh and zingy drink in the next 18 months for more creamy red fruit drink after 18 months.

Serve at 6-8°C
Food match
Asparagus, grilled chicken, radishes, goats cheese, English brie (French as well), shellfish, sushi, parma ham, pasta with fresh tomato. This is a fresh style rosé and in many respects should be served and consumed in the same way as white wine, however there is a red fruit character to the wine that provides great balance and body when pairing with food, that means it pairs equally well with fish as it does with carpaccio and parma ham.

Meet the winemaker - Kieron Atkinson

Angels have been asking us to scout out more English winemakers for as long as we can remember. But we never expected to find one in Derbyshire of all places!

Kieron Atkinson has been quietly making award-winning English wines in Derbyshire for over a decade as chief winemaker at the historic Renishaw Hall, once thought to be the most northerly vineyard in the whole world. In 2011, he founded his very own English Wine Project to help raise the profile and quality of wines across the land. His aim is to put England on the map as a country that can produce wines that are up there with some of the best in the world.

Above all, he’s a really thoughtful, intelligent guy and the quality of his wines is superb. His winery is based in an old cotton mill in the Derwent Valley, in the middle of Derbyshire. But he also travels up and down the country as a consultant, helping other winemakers make their wines better too. It’s all part of his mission to champion the best of English wine. It’s so great to be working with an exciting new English winemaker like Kieron. And he’s so chuffed to be on board and is looking forward to hooking up with Angels.
