About the wine
Buttery, elegant and delicious - Chardonnay fans need look no further
- I believe that there is no greater translator of terroir than Chardonnay. I think this shows off my style of winemaking perfectly, I just had to share this wine with you.
- Chardonnay grapes and the cost of barrels make it difficult to grow the volumes. When I heard there was an opportunity for a new Chardonnay in Naked Wines’ range I couldn't resist putting this wine together for the Angels. Thank you Angels and Naked for believing in me and helping me fund this awesome Chardonnay.
- Light gold in colour with a green tinge, on the nose there is complex citrus, green apples and pears followed by a light toasty character from the 30% new French Oak. These flavours integrate on a seamless, well balanced palate with a butterscotch, citrus mineral finish.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Johan Kruger
- When Johan started Kruger Family Wines in 2015, he’d just chucked in a safe Stellenbosch job to follow his dream. Money was tight so he could only rent a place to make his own wines, and was spending a ton of time on the road selling them. A total waste of his time and talent.
- Then we got a tip-off from South African legend Bruwer Raats. He said Johan was just the kind of insanely talented, up and coming winemaker Naked was born to champion. We signed him up, gave Angels access to his wines, and boom! It was love at first sight (on both sides).
- Angel support is helping Johan to plant new vineyards, expand his winery and kit it out with even bigger and better barrels, raising his whole operation. He’s been humbled, and truly gobsmacked, by all the love and support Angels have shown.

Was thinking of liking this so i could love the reserve which i haven’t tried yet! What’s the point? This is fabulous. Rich, full, opulent - perfect with a Maccheroni Cheese. Glad I bought a few bottles as it’s now out of stock.

Very nicely balanced, great gentle fruit notes, not overpowering or too strong. If any suggestion, maybe higher alcohol content or acidity as its very gluggable as it stands and goes down very quickly ! Great wine to drink on its own or with food.

A great chardonnary. Prehaps im biased as chadonnary is my favourite white wine grapes and its hard for me to say a bad thing about it, but having not tried one from South Africa before i was looking forward to this one snd it did not disappoint. Will defibately order again

Back to a normal working week now after the Christmas and New Year holidays, and so I feel justified in celebrating another most venerated landmark in the calendar - it is of course Hump Day Eve (HDE) 😉
And I’ve pulled out an impressive wine to mark the occasion, it’s the Kruger Family Chardonnay 2022 (mine is the somewhat earlier 2018 vintage).
Not a wine I’ve seen mentioned much on the site, but I have to say I’m enjoying it very much.
Cheers!

I have a couple of bottles of that and was thinking of ageing them a few years so would be interested in tasting notes you made as that one is 8 years old now. Do you have a comparison with one you have drunk younger?

Thanks Bill & Paul - I'm currently experiencing very weird and unaccustomed feelings of optimism as a Newcastle fan. Most disconcerting! 😁
