When you think about it, Slovenian wine just makes sense. Its Brda region (where you’ll find the Krasno) is just a short hop across the border from Fruili, where Italian Sauvignon grown in near identical conditions will cost you more than double the price!
- Fresh and elegant, this beautiful blend boasts aromas and flavours of green apples, a delicate floral touch and impressively fruity finish – so form an orderly queue please folks! Just don’t try saying ‘Slovenian Sauvignon’ after a few glasses!
- We’ve had the chance to cherry-pick the best of Majestic wines to plug gaps in our range. This wine wasn’t funded by Angels, so doesn’t carry an Angel saving. But thanks to Majestic’s buying power, you still get it at a snip!

Meet the winemaker - Darinko Ribolica
Darinko hails from Goriška Brda, a place fondly termed the "Tuscany of Slovenia". It’s a fairy tale land, nestled halfway between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea and a stone’s throw from Italy. With all that going on it’s easy to see why it’s perfect winemaking country!
Slovenia is rather unexplored when it comes to UK wine drinkers but Darinko is hoping to change all that. He’s the perfect man to do this as he uses local varieties, such a Rebula, to create wines that are modern, fresh and deliciously gluggable. He’s been making wine for over 26 years now and learnt a lot from his grandfather who was one of the founders of the first cooperative in the area back in 1921.
If that wasn’t enough to peak your interest then how about the fact he’s no stranger to the fierce world of wine competitions? He’s appeared both nationally and internationally at events such as the ‘International Oenological Competition’ in Italy, ‘Vino Ljubljana’ and the ‘Slovenia Wine Competition’. He’s even been a jury member at ‘Chardonnay du Monde’ in France so you can be sure some serious know-how goes into his wines.
