About the wine
This wine comes with a warning - Jen's Diamond Durif is a BIG red!
- Rutherglen is regarded as Durif's home in Australia, as its warm and dry summer and autumn conditions make it the perfect place to grow Durif. My Diamond Durif is a blend from two different low-yielding vineyards in Rutherglen, on opposing sides of town (east and west). When it arrives at the winery 20% of one parcel finishes its fermentation in brand new oak barrels while the rest of the wine completes its ferment on skins, before everything is matured in French and American oak barrels for 18 months.
- My Diamond range are favourites with the Angels, and my Diamond Durif comes with a warning - this is a BIG red! Make sure you're sitting down for your first sip... it may just knock you off your feet :) I have only been making this variety for a few years, and I really love working with this Rutherglen beauty - you'll struggle to find a better Durif at this price!
- My Durif has an impenetrable, dark and inky purple colour. The aromas are full of black berries and blood plums, with dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla too. The flavours are just as big, bold and beautiful, with rich and ripe flavours and lots of tannin to give length and power on the finish.

Serving advice
My Diamond Durif will benefit from opening and airing or decanting for 2-3 hours prior to serving, to allow it to become more expressive and show all its wonderful flavours.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Jen Pfeiffer
- Back in 2012, during a trip to Oz, Sam Plunkett insisted we paid a visit to his friend ‘the girl with the superstar palate’. The bad news was she was busy judging at a wine show but we were patient and the second we finally got to meet Jen, we just knew it was meant to be.
- Energetic, passionate and oh-so talented, Jen grew up in a winemaking family and fell in love with the industry from a young age! She travelled widely, learning her craft at many of the great wineries in France and Portugal before returning to the family winery with a desire to really push the boundaries
- Our ‘Rock it like a Redhead’ star has won hundreds of medals and was also crowned your Winemaker of the Year in 2015 so it’s safe to say she was definitely worth the wait!

I had 18 bottles of this latest vintage delivered this afternoon. As I always do, I drank a bottle immediately (over a few hours, you understand...) before cellaring the rest for as long as I can hang on...
It didn't quite enthral me as much as last year's order of the 2021 vintage on immediate opening: it was still very smooth and deep-ish both in flavour and texture, and of course colour, but I felt something was missing. Maybe longer than 18 months in Oak (21, if not 24) could be an option?
I'll open another bottle in a year's time, as I did with the 2021 vintage, and see if there is a difference.
In the meantime Jen, please make this wine EVERY year, as there are so few winemakers using Durif (aka Petite Syrah) and it is a grape variety that I'm sure 'Powerful Shiraz' drinkers will appreciate, as indeed I do.
With the greatest of respect, I feel the price point of MP/AP of this vintage is a little high by around £2-3, but I will not request a refund, as cellaring may result in a genuinely value wine.
Best regards Jen, and keep on 'Rocking it'...
Colin

❤️❤️❤️❤️+
This is a truly stunning wine from Jen. Full of dark brooding fruit with hints of dark chocolate. Went well with a chicken stir fry but really came into its own later in the evening with some cheese and biscuits. Decanted about 4 hours before drinking it continued to open out during the evening. I have given 4.5 hearts simply because I think another 12-18 months in the bottle will benefit it otherwise it is a definite ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Jen Pfeiffer The Diamond Durif 2022 for me this evening. Decanted about 3 hours before the first glass which I paired with chicken stir fry. Be interesting to see how it develops over the evening. Happy Friday everyone 🍷

The aroma in the glass is amazing. Absolutely fills the glass with plums and dryness. Taste superb. Top quality wine. Thanks Jen.
