About the wine
This wine comes with a warning - Jen's Diamond Durif is a BIG red!
- Rutherglen is regarded as Durif's home in Australia, as its warm and dry summer and autumn conditions make it the perfect place to grow Durif. My Diamond Durif is a blend from two different low-yielding vineyards in Rutherglen, on opposing sides of town (east and west). When it arrives at the winery 20% of one parcel finishes its fermentation in brand new oak barrels while the rest of the wine completes its ferment on skins, before everything is matured in French and American oak barrels for 18 months.
- My Diamond range are favourites with the Angels, and my Diamond Durif comes with a warning - this is a BIG red! Make sure you're sitting down for your first sip... it may just knock you off your feet :) I have only been making this variety for a few years, and I really love working with this Rutherglen beauty - you'll struggle to find a better Durif at this price!
- My Durif has an impenetrable, dark and inky purple colour. The aromas are full of black berries and blood plums, with dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla too. The flavours are just as big, bold and beautiful, with rich and ripe flavours and lots of tannin to give length and power on the finish.

Food match
My Diamond Durif loves to be paired with red meat. From a juicy steak straight off the BBQ to a pulled pork or braised lamb tagine, my Diamond Durif will be just the wine to make your meal sing! Its also excellent with a chicken mole with its rich spiciness.
There are plenty of vegetarian options too, like a roasted sweet potato chili with tortillas or stuffed capsicums.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Jen Pfeiffer
- Back in 2012, during a trip to Oz, Sam Plunkett insisted we paid a visit to his friend ‘the girl with the superstar palate’. The bad news was she was busy judging at a wine show but we were patient and the second we finally got to meet Jen, we just knew it was meant to be.
- Energetic, passionate and oh-so talented, Jen grew up in a winemaking family and fell in love with the industry from a young age! She travelled widely, learning her craft at many of the great wineries in France and Portugal before returning to the family winery with a desire to really push the boundaries
- Our ‘Rock it like a Redhead’ star has won hundreds of medals and was also crowned your Winemaker of the Year in 2015 so it’s safe to say she was definitely worth the wait!

Wow, what a beauty, we've never scored a 5 before, always keeping that back for when something special came along, this was wonderful, intense, smooth, just lovely, and we have another bottle on the rack for another time. Cheers.

A great match with a peppery Cornish pasty. If you're not familiar with this Jen, it contains small pieces of beef mixed with potato, onion, swede, leek, mustard, pepper, coriander and turmeric.
Best served with a little mashed potato, veggies and topped with gravy, if you want to make a meal of it, else on its own is just fine.
To taste, there's plenty going on: blackcurrant, raspberry, other dark fruits... and bitter sweet chocolate on the finish.
Looking forward to playing the Aussies next week Jen.
Lots of T20s and ODIs to look forward to!
Game on!

A review by Christopher Leno of Jen Pfeiffer The Diamond Durif 2021 reminded me that I still have some of the 2013 vintage, so that is what I'm drinking tonight (thanks Christopher!).
Have a good evening, everyone.

Jen Pfeiffer The Diamond Durif 2021 for me tonight. Decanted around 3 hours before drinking and paired with a spicy chicken casserole initially. This is one of my favourite wines and another is in my basket already. Happy Saturday everyone 🍷
