About the wine
Hamish is back with a premium McLaren Vale Shiraz combining signature Aussie power with next-level style and elegance
-
Hamish Maguire is a Naked superstar down under, but the Aussies love his wines so much they tend to keep it all to themselves, meaning very few have reached UK shores. Thankfully, we got a tip off that this one was a complete worldie, and we just had to get our hands on it.
-
McLaren Vale is already known for producing fine, indulgent reds that are a real step up from your typical Aussie bruiser. But the 2018 vintage was extra-special, with low yields of incredibly high quality grapes. So Hamish decided he’d kick things up a notch by making a barrel-fermented Shiraz in swanky American oak.
-
This is pure premium Shiraz. Stylish and elegant with that signature Shiraz power, and delicious notes of lush cherries, blackberries and luxurious spice. All the classic Aussie characteristics are there - power, spice, length, texture - but it isn’t a big, bold, in-your-face number, it’s more elegant… and extremely drinkable.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Hamish Maguire
- Hamish has been working in vineyards since he was old enough to pick up a spade. His father was a Winemaker so Hamish and his brothers spent much of their youth pulling weeds and training young vines.
- Decades later and his weed pulling experience looks has stood him in pretty good stead. Hamish now runs his own winery in Australia's prestigious McLaren Vale, which Hamish (and a fair few of you would agree) has dubbed one of the best wine regions in the world.
- Tasty, juicy and balanced are the key criteria for every last drop of Hamish's wines. Working predominantly with McLaren's Shiraz and Grenache grapes, you can rely on Hamish to pull powerful and outrageously delicious big reds out of the bag time after time.

This wine is outrageous...outrageously good and outrageously priced! Hands down one of (if not THE best) wine's I've had from Naked! Starting with the wonderful fragrance you experience when taking a sip, it's a scent that radiates berries and a touch of vanilla, a delightful introduction the treat about to hit your taste buds. Juicy, sturdy and bold without being overpowering, it's complex and simple all at the same time. Well balanced tannins give a nice bit of 'afterglow' on the palate. Can't recommend this enough! Enjoyed it on it's own and with various lamb dishes. Perfect for Autumnal evenings.
I took this wine with me on a weekend trip to visit Cambridge, specifically with the intention of taking it along to a BYOB Indian restaurant that had been recommended to me for dinner one evening.
I’m not sure whether Hamish would approve of the food match or not, but I’ve found Aussie Shiraz can handle spicy cuisine pretty well, and for me the pairing worked nicely again.
This is quite a refined smooth Shiraz as opposed to a full bodied blockbuster, but there’s still plenty of dark blackberry fruit flavour, with some spicy notes and good length of finish. Very enjoyable.

Beautifully balanced. Very smooth, classy rather than fruity. Doesn’t taste like a 14.5abv wine.
