About the wine
An Old World classic made from some of the New Worlds most premium grapes
- Francois’ grower’s farm sits on one of the most sought after sites in Stellenbosch, on the Helderberg mountain. Theese grapes would normally go into expensive high-end wines. But the South African alcohol ban left her 2021 crop with no home. Thanks to Angels we were able to buy up the lot.
- This classy Syrah is made in the Old World French style. The first thing you notice is the lively aroma of blueberries and damsons, with notes of spice and violet. In the mouth it’s soft and smooth, with some warmth to it.
- It has an elegant freshness with hints of black olive, a twist of pepper and light chalky tannins. This is soft, subtle, easy-drinking heaven.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Francois Haasbroek
- Francois has worked for some of the world’s most iconic brands, including Dry Creek Vineyard in Sonoma, Jackson Estate in Marlborough, and Waterford Estate back home in Stellenbosch.
- His real passion however, is seeking out under the radar parcels to craft boutique wines - so in 2014 he ditched the high-flying day job to turn his hand to making the next great underground wine.
- Francois now focuses exclusively on creating high quality, single-vineyard wines from small-scale sites hidden away all over the Western Cape. He built long lasting relationships with the growers and made wines true to their site of origin, with as little human jiggery-pokery as possible.

A lovely wine, dry but with fruity undertones. I enjoyed it with a good rare steak.

You nailed the paring, and yes Syrah always has a more dry tannin structure than the Shiraz iteration,.

This is just the type of wine I like! And there was a Vagabond outlet on the Northcote Road in Clapham Junction near where we lived in London 2017-2019. It was always a great evening in there! I wonder if there is a connection?
