About the wine
A unique blend of Riesling and Gewurztraminer from Waipara
- This wine was a blast to make. Deciding on which varieties to put in the blend, spending time with the grower on how to deal with them differently, when to pick, how to process into wine - so many absorbing forks in the road and I loved every minute. Waipara makes beautiful aromatic wines and I was keen to put a different slant on this.
- Naked have been supporting my endeavours to produce interesting and delicious wine from a small and often unknown region. Through the incredible journey that was the crowd funding to help me get off the ground, their continual support and the total enthusiasm they have shown for my wines, I have been able to concentrate on picking, pressing, fermenting and blending these unique wines for Naked and the Angels.
- Beautiful, light and ethereal on the nose with quite a bouquet of lychee, citrus fruits and freshly picked white spring flowers. A fresh and lengthy palate carries the citrus fruits throughout with a hint of fruit sweetness but finishing dry. Great by itself or with light meals.

Meet the winemaker - Dom Maxwell
- Dom is one of the best winemakers in New Zealand. He was voted New Zealand Winemaker of the Year in 2018 and 2011, he also won the prestigious Decanter International Trophy for Pinot Noir in 2014.
- We had a nod from Rod Easthope that Dom wanted to break free, become an independent winemaker and create a brighter future for his family. Frankly it was a chance we couldn't pass up.
- Dom has made wine for some exceptional Kiwi wineries, including Muddy Water and Greystone. Now he's able to put his own name on the label to make wines for himself and for you.

As it’s National Drink Wine day I feel obliged to open a bottle this evening, the Dom Maxwell The Bloom 2022. I remember that when the 2016 vintage first landed on the virtual shelves it provoked a lot of discussion (overwhelmingly positive) in the groups. Sadly, those days are behind us, but it’s still a lovely wine.
Cheers, and Happy Humpday Eve!

I was blown away by this from the first sip. It’s creamy, smooth, lovely soft fruits with a citrusy note in the background. It’s got that lovely oily texture that a Gervertztraminer (did I spell that correctly?!?!) has.
I really like it, and will definitely be back for more. I can’t comment on food pairing, as all I had to hand was a packet of crisps!!

Pretty nice, a little lemony for me personally, so preferred it more chilled. Went well before and during a Massaman curry 8/10

I did, for the last time this year (probably).
Firstly, new vintages of some regular purchases:
Sam Plunkett Whitegate Vineyard Shiraz 2020
Bellesa Perfecta Priorat 2019
Cordero Gavi del Comune di Gavi 2023
Serena Cordero Tris 2023
Some wines I’ve had before but don’t buy regularly:
Dom Maxwell The Bloom 2022
Gerd Stepp Pinot Blanc 2022
Raats Angels Selection Chenin Blanc 2023
You wait ages for a red Burgundy, then three turn up at the same time:
Domaine Jacqueline Frachet Chorey Les Beaune Vieilles Vignes 2021
Domaine Jacqueline Frachet Aloxe Corton 2021
Domaine Jacqueline Frachet Volnay 2021
Next, sheer self-indulgence:
Boschkloof Epilogue 2022
A wine new to me:
Christian Patat Greco di Tufo 2023
Finally, the free bottle:
Scott Peterson ROX Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon Magnum 2022
That’s Christmas sorted (although possibly not New Year). Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed this Blend Miles , making small batches of boutique wine is always more labour intensive as the wine is handled with extra care at every stage… so yes sometime will be a little more for wines like this. That said I would still hope people see the great value in the wine. Thanks for giving this wine a go , cheers :)

I'm gonna disagree with almost everyone, and it may be my palette. I don't associate floral with this at all. Ok, it does have a pleasing, citrus, sharpness, but with a strong undertone of peach/apricot fruit, and is an extremely rounded and pleasant mouthful. Very, very drinkable. EDITED to add: I've since ordered more, and have to say this is right up there on my favourites list. Currently one of my top 5 whites
