About the wine
Joao's very first Naked white is a refreshingly elegant Douro bursting with crisp fruit and minerality
-
Douro native Joao Pires hand-picked a top-quality blend of white wine grapes from among the highest vineyards in his region, to create this mouthwateringly clean and crisp Nadador Branco. It’s his very first Naked white and every bit as delicious as his reds.
-
On the nose it’s fresh, punchy and vibrant, bursting with aromas of citrus, passion fruit, lime, and subtle floral hints. All that crisp fruity flavour carries through on the taste buds with a great texture, refreshingly elegant mouthfeel and superb mineral finish.
-
‘O Nadador’ is Portuguese for ‘the swimmer’, and if ever a wine was made to pair with salty seafood, this is it. Our top pick is crispy BBQ sardines slathered in olive oil. Light up the barbie and grill until they’re just charred, then enjoy with a glass of Joao’s Branco… mouthwatering.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Joao Pires
-
Not many children dream of a career turning grapes into wine, but João Pires knew from an early age he was headed for the vineyard. After completing a degree in winemaking in 2005, he went straight on to his very first vintage.
-
His expressive wines are critically acclaimed, catching the attention of Decanter who awarded one of his Portuguese classics an almost unheard of 97%-rating and platinum medal.
-
João's winemaking career is centred in the region where he was born and raised. The Douro native knows the land like the back of his hand and knows all the best grape-growing spots - he's involved in every aspect of winemaking, from hours tending the vines to bottling the wines, it's a labour of love.
