To show you the value you're getting as an Angel...
We regularly benchmark a selection of our wines against up to three comparable wines on the market. The Market Price is based on the price of those wines.
What do we mean by benchmark? We taste them blind against our own wines, or we use our market knowledge (over 40 years between us) to set an industry standard Market Price.
If you buy one of our wines and disagree with the Market Price, or it's not your cup of tea, we'll add a credit to your account. For more info, see our FAQS.

About the wine
Seriously rich and moreish red from the Douro Valley's homegrown superstar
-
If you’re a fan of Portuguese wines, you need to give critically-acclaimed winemaker Joao Pires’ brand new Aventureiro Tinto a whirl. This seriously moreish, fruity nectar is an absolutely classic Douro Valley red, made by a born and bred native of the region.
-
Having grown up among the riverside terraces and elevated vineyards of the Douro, Joao has an intricate knowledge of the region and knows where to find the best parcels of fruit. He was so excited to create this incredible new Tinto just for you, to show off the incredible quality and class his region has to offer.
-
It’s a delicious blend of 5 different Portuguese grapes all wrapped up in a warm oaky hug, with layers upon layers of flavour and complexity. It’s packed with rich dark fruits, bramble and liquorice, and notes of black pepper and olive with nice tannins on the finish. This wine is already super-yummy now, but give it a few years to age and that flavour and complexity will just multiply in heaps and spades.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Joao Pires
-
Not many children dream of a career turning grapes into wine, but João Pires knew from an early age he was headed for the vineyard. After completing a degree in winemaking in 2005, he went straight on to his very first vintage.
-
His expressive wines are critically acclaimed, catching the attention of Decanter who awarded one of his Portuguese classics an almost unheard of 97%-rating and platinum medal.
-
João's winemaking career is centred in the region where he was born and raised. The Douro native knows the land like the back of his hand and knows all the best grape-growing spots - he's involved in every aspect of winemaking, from hours tending the vines to bottling the wines, it's a labour of love.

Bom Dia Angels,
I hope this finds you all well. I've recently finished harvest 2022 and thought I’d take a moment to let you know about this new vintage that has just landed.
Caminho da Costa O Aventureiro Tinto 2019 is an approachable, fruit-driven and structured Douro red packed with rich dark fruits and spice notes. It's a blend of classic local varieties: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Sousão which each bring something to the blend.
I think this wine is drinking really well now but will also develop in bottle over the next few years. Here's a link to a little video talking about the wine https://youtu.be/rMFrWa8icAw where I am sitting by the Caminho da Costa Feitoria stone which has been in place since 1761!
In the photos you can see a bottle on the Feitoria stone as well as the wine being served alongside local meats and bread.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this wine, as well as any food matching recommendations that you have.
Saúde
João

Plenty of fruit with a good amount of oak, just could have done with a bigger oomph for my taste... it was a little light.
Couldn’t resist the sale. Some favourite wines and some new wines for me to try 🍷

Nice, but for my taste, a slight missed opportunity. The oak is lovely, but i’d really like a bit more fruit for the vanilla of the oak to play against. Still very balanced and very smooth and drinkable, just feels like it could be even better with a bit more fruit flavour.
