About the wine
Veer off the beaten path with this stunning fruit-crusher Chenin Blanc blend
- Montagu is a secret, off-the-beaten-path winemakers' paradise, once known for sweet wine and brandy. Reenen Borman is the trailblazing winemaker who uncovered a gold mine of stunning parcels in the underappreciated region. With Angel funding, he's raising the profile of this promising South African region - and Angels can say that they helped put it on the map.
- When Reenen's mate had just finished picking premium Montagu grapes for one of South Africa's iconic wines (which goes for £36 a pop), he set aside a small batch for Reenen. He was blown away by the grapes' quality, grown on rare 30-year-old vines, and decided to make it into something special, just for Angels.
- Reenen took Colombard (a grape typically used for brandy) and showcased it as a solid support act for his fruity Chenin Blanc blend. The result is a mouthwatering explosion of fruit salad flavours wrapped up with a fresh citrus zippiness – a deliciously quaffable taste bud refresher.

Meet the winemaker - Reenen Borman
Reenen Borman is one of the rising stars of the South Africa wine scene. He made the highest-rated South African red wine ever scored by Tim Atkin, who called him "one of the most talented young winemakers in the world" – high praise from one of the UK’s leading wine boffins.
Reenen’s Boschkloof estate, on the edge of Stellenbosch, is a true family-run winery. Reenen makes the wines, his dad Jacques tends to the grapes, and his mum Marina and wife Marli run the office.
Reenen sells 90% of his wine to restaurants and bars around the world – so the sudden global closures posed an enormous risk to his family-run winery. Your support will be a total game-changer for his small business.

Definitely reorder
Delicate. The blend tones down the acidity of the chenin blanc. It has lemon, peach and a little butter. Lovely balance. A very enjoyable wine. Definitely one to buy again.

On the sweet side for me with the classic "cats pee" note of chenin blanc. Packed full of green fruit flavour, gooseberry and greengage. Really unpleasant as an aperitif, more palatable with SE Asian lightly spiced food.

Had this as part of 2024 advent calendar - 3 of us were tasting together, so combined notes-
Grapefruit nose, peachy syrupy finish, full stone fruit flavour, good mouthful. Ave score 4.2/5
