About the wine
Officially one the best wines in all of South Africa - and you get special access
-
There are rare wines, super-rare wines… and then there’s Reenen Borman’s Epilogue. Not only his flagship wine, it's renowned for being the finest expression of Syrah in Stellenbosch.
-
A proper collector’s wine – previous vintages sell for up to £75 a bottle and critics say it gives "any wine around the world a serious run for its money". In 2023, it was the ONLY wine to be awarded 100 points in Tim Atkin MW’s South Africa Wine Report. And it was in such high demand that our supplies disappeared in under one hour. Ridiculous.
-
A classic Syrah with tons of complexity, it has elegant aromas of blackberry, cranberry, cherry, black pepper and wild herbs (phew!). On the palate, it’s the perfect balance of fruit and savoury black pepper, with a hint of violets, and a long finish.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Reenen Borman
Reenen Borman is one of the rising stars of the South Africa wine scene. He made the highest-rated South African red wine ever scored by Tim Atkin, who called him "one of the most talented young winemakers in the world" – high praise from one of the UK’s leading wine boffins.
Reenen’s Boschkloof estate, on the edge of Stellenbosch, is a true family-run winery. Reenen makes the wines, his dad Jacques tends to the grapes, and his mum Marina and wife Marli run the office.
Reenen sells 90% of his wine to restaurants and bars around the world – so the sudden global closures posed an enormous risk to his family-run winery. Your support will be a total game-changer for his small business.

Very peppery but extremely smooth and delicious. Not my normal wine choice but had to try. Very much enjoyed it and will get another couple of bottles
Stunning wine!
I did, for the last time this year (probably).
Firstly, new vintages of some regular purchases:
Sam Plunkett Whitegate Vineyard Shiraz 2020
Bellesa Perfecta Priorat 2019
Cordero Gavi del Comune di Gavi 2023
Serena Cordero Tris 2023
Some wines I’ve had before but don’t buy regularly:
Dom Maxwell The Bloom 2022
Gerd Stepp Pinot Blanc 2022
Raats Angels Selection Chenin Blanc 2023
You wait ages for a red Burgundy, then three turn up at the same time:
Domaine Jacqueline Frachet Chorey Les Beaune Vieilles Vignes 2021
Domaine Jacqueline Frachet Aloxe Corton 2021
Domaine Jacqueline Frachet Volnay 2021
Next, sheer self-indulgence:
Boschkloof Epilogue 2022
A wine new to me:
Christian Patat Greco di Tufo 2023
Finally, the free bottle:
Scott Peterson ROX Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon Magnum 2022
That’s Christmas sorted (although possibly not New Year). Cheers!

Tough one, this. Really nice, restrained and elegant syrah. Good balance and some nice red fruit with a touch of well-balanced peppery spice. Went very well with some roast lamb leg. That said, the killer for me is the cost. At approx. £50 list price, I think it's well over-priced and even at the Angel offering, I'm afraid I can't really justify it. It's a nice wine, but I'm struggling to see the value. Apologies if I'm missing something here re. it's production etc.
Dark ruby red Nose scented with dark berry and plum Palate medium to full bodied, dark plummy fruit, velvety tannins, high acidity. Bone dry austere finish with good length. Despite the incredible critic scores, this is a good but not yet a great wine.

I won't be drinking it for a few years - so it's a predicted score given my knowledge of South African wine and this wine in particular. I am so grateful to you Reenan for making this wine available to Angels. I missed out on the 21 sadly, after buting the 20, but not this time.

Great stuff Jonathan! I looked for you yesterday, but failed to find you.
I managed to grab a bottle a couple of months back Paul, when it was temporarily listed. It's too pricey for the FWC. There's always next year, else maybe it'll stick around...
