Boschkloof Epilogue 2022

To show you the value you're getting as an Angel...

We regularly benchmark a selection of our wines against up to three comparable wines on the market. The Market Price is based on the price of those wines.

What do we mean by benchmark? We taste them blind against our own wines, or we use our market knowledge (over 40 years between us) to set an industry standard Market Price.

If you buy one of our wines and disagree with the Market Price, or it's not your cup of tea, we'll add a credit to your account. For more info, see our FAQS.

Very peppery but extremely smooth and delicious. Not my normal wine choice but had to try. Very much enjoyed it and will get another couple of bottles

I did, for the last time this year (probably).

Firstly, new vintages of some regular purchases:

Sam Plunkett Whitegate Vineyard Shiraz 2020
Bellesa Perfecta Priorat 2019
Cordero Gavi del Comune di Gavi 2023
Serena Cordero Tris 2023

Some wines I’ve had before but don’t buy regularly:
Dom Maxwell The Bloom 2022
Gerd Stepp Pinot Blanc 2022
Raats Angels Selection Chenin Blanc 2023

You wait ages for a red Burgundy, then three turn up at the same time:
Domaine Jacqueline Frachet Chorey Les Beaune Vieilles Vignes 2021
Domaine Jacqueline Frachet Aloxe Corton 2021
Domaine Jacqueline Frachet Volnay 2021

Next, sheer self-indulgence:
Boschkloof Epilogue 2022

A wine new to me:
Christian Patat Greco di Tufo 2023

Finally, the free bottle:
Scott Peterson ROX Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon Magnum 2022

That’s Christmas sorted (although possibly not New Year). Cheers!

Tough one, this. Really nice, restrained and elegant syrah. Good balance and some nice red fruit with a touch of well-balanced peppery spice. Went very well with some roast lamb leg. That said, the killer for me is the cost. At approx. £50 list price, I think it's well over-priced and even at the Angel offering, I'm afraid I can't really justify it. It's a nice wine, but I'm struggling to see the value. Apologies if I'm missing something here re. it's production etc.

Dark ruby red Nose scented with dark berry and plum Palate medium to full bodied, dark plummy fruit, velvety tannins, high acidity. Bone dry austere finish with good length. Despite the incredible critic scores, this is a good but not yet a great wine.

I won't be drinking it for a few years - so it's a predicted score given my knowledge of South African wine and this wine in particular. I am so grateful to you Reenan for making this wine available to Angels. I missed out on the 21 sadly, after buting the 20, but not this time.

Great stuff Jonathan! I looked for you yesterday, but failed to find you.
I managed to grab a bottle a couple of months back Paul, when it was temporarily listed. It's too pricey for the FWC. There's always next year, else maybe it'll stick around...
