Hard-working husband and wife team on a life-changing journey running wineries in England and France
- In 2002, Charles & Ruth took a leap into the unknown. They quit their dull, corporate jobs. Hopped on the first plane to France. And bought up their own little patch of grape-growing land in Southern France.
- It turned out to be an inspired move. Since then their delicious, Angel-exclusive wines haven’t stopped scooping IWC and Decanter World Wine Awards and rave reviews from wine-critic royalty.
- Not content to rest on their laurels in France, they set their sights on another opportunity, making English wine in Blighty. Your backing also gave them the confidence to do just that! In 2014 they returned to their roots and planted their first English vineyard near Canterbury.

Charles and Ruth Simpson's Story
It was a spirit of adventure and a desire to be part of positive change that took us initially to France, with an aspiration to help transform the reputation of the Languedoc from a low quality, high volume wine producer to a high quality, low volume wine producer, a challenge that continues to this day. We have now been making award winning wines at Domaine de Sainte Rose, our stunning, southern French property, since 2002. From our 40-hectare vineyard we have created an eclectic range of wines that will change your mind about the Languedoc region’s ability to produce exceptional wine.
That same desire to be part of an emerging and evolving area also brought us back to the UK, our aspiration this time to help drive the extraordinary development that has seen England grow from being a little known and insignificant wine producer, to the most exciting and dynamic wine producing area in the world. So in 2014, we brought our expertise and savoir-faire back to the UK, establishing Simpsons’ Wine Estate on the iconic chalk slopes of the North Downs of Kent, where we are now creating the finest quality sparkling and still wines that challenge the perception of English wines both nationally and internationally.
