Caroline Mooney's Story
"I had been working in the Yarra Valley for close to 12 years after growing up in the region. Following 8 ½ years at Yering Station, I finally left to pursue making wine on a small scale from vineyards of impeccable geographical provenance.
In 2008 I released my first wine, 2008 Bird On A Wire Syrah which, was awarded the 2009 "Under the Radar" prize, judged by winemaking peers for best up-and-coming new producer.
Spurred on by the success of the 2008 Syrah, I pursued particular vineyard sites from which to source fruit for the 2009 Chardonnay and, in 2010, Marsanne.
The focus is directed towards the quality of the single vineyard sites, selected for their suitability to each variety. Small production volumes and the winemaking techniques employed aim to showcase these vineyards. The care, skill and commitment of the growers results in the production of outstanding fruit and are paramount factors in helping Bird On A Wire achieve the end result.
In 2006 my husband and I travelled to the Rhone Valley, in France, and worked the vintage with Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, an experience which drives the ethos of Bird On A Wire Wines, making wines to share with others from sites you truly believe in."
