About the wine
The big booming Italian red giving Amarone a run for its money
- Brunello di Montacino is a strong contender for the title of Italy's biggest and grandest wine, right up there with Amarone and the Super Tuscans. It's a good job too, because it means the hard work and hoops that must be jumped in order to make this classy number is all worth while.
- It's a rather fiddly process you see. You need 100% Sangiovese grapes from young vines that are then aged for 5 years, with 2 spent tightly tucked away in barrels. After a grueling wait the end product is finally released on new years day 5 years after the year it was harvested.
- The end product is well worth the wait. Beautifully perfumed with a mix of violets, red berries and truffles. The palate is well structured, with the most delicate touch of tart tannins, amping this rich Italian red up several notches. This Brunello di Montalcino is a real gem for any Italianophile.

I had to poor a bottle in the sink ( corked ?)
I cannot understand why you price this wine at £30
You should remove it from your list
Bloody delicious
The 2017 Tornesi Brunello that I bought some weeks ago had a different label to the one shown. It was excellent and even after only 6 years some esters were coming over in the bouquet and taste, bringing a subtle wine experience that experienced tasters will understand. The picture shown would prevent me from ordering more, which I wanted to do.

This was outstanding. Just love Brunello
I will keep the other bottles I have for at least another year, as I think this needs a bit longer to mature. The wine has a deep colour which fades to a light brown and purple on the rim. The nose is a blend of raspberry and cherry. The initial taste is smooth and mellow with the cherry coming to the fore, mixed with some lavender. A tart raspberry then dominates and the long taste is dry. It was really good with cured meats but I found it a bit too dry when drinking alone.

Read my full review, I am asking for a full refund, this wine is not corked but not been stored correctly as stated by a Sommelier friend of mine and several Italian Restraunt owners in Cardiff. This wine I not drinkable and this is the first bad wine I have had from Naked having spent thousands of pounds with them.
Bought two bottles decantered the first bottle and let it breathe for an hour, I shared this wine with some of Cardiffs to Restraunt owners and a Sommelier, whilst they all agreed that the wine was not corked, they all agreed that this wine had not been stored correctly, this wine was not drinkable and as this was my offering to our Christmas meal we opened the second bottle which was exactly the same, Familiar with all Italian wines Brunello is my favourite, this wine evaporated on the palate and the after taste was bitter, thus should be a smooth wine robust and, my Christmas box this year was 13 bottles of Appasimento 2 Bottles Brunello, 2 bottles of Margau and 2 bottles of Poggio du Guarda, Appasimento and the Poggio are superb wines, Margaux not opened yet, I would like a refund or full credit and suggest that Naked check this wine out, please don’t try this wine it is nothing like a Brunello.
My wishlist was becoming unmanageably large, so I really had to press the green button.
New vintage wines from my winemakers:
i-Latina La Armonia Vineyard Syrah 2019
i-Latina La Rabicana Vineyard Carmenere 2019
Boschkloof Merlot 2021
Cordero Gavi 2022
Cordero Barolo DOCG 2019
Next, three returning vintages of old favourites:
Simpsons of Servian Low Yield Roussanne 2021
Troupis Route Gris Moschofilero 2022
Mischief and Mayhem Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Bas Liards 2020
Wines new to me:
Sam makes great Shiraz, and his single vineyard ones are always rather special, so I have to try Sam Plunkett 1919 Plantings Shiraz 2021
What can I say about this next one? I had the pleasure of meeting Jean Marc a couple of times. Great bloke, great loss. Au Revoir Monsieur Jones 2022.
I’ve always enjoyed Sangiovese, so both the Tornesi Brunello di Montalcino 2017 and the Vigna Barbischio Chianti Classico Riserva Organic 2020 were obvious choices.
Finally, having recently enjoyed the 2021 vintage, when the Breaking Grounds Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022 appeared as my free bottle it was clearly meant to be.
Ordered Saturday, delivered Monday. A great effort all round.
Cheers!
