What do we mean by benchmark? We taste them blind against our own wines, or we use our market knowledge (over 40 years between us) to set an industry standard Market Price.

About the wine
A fireworks display of refined Mosel quality
- Christopher and Karl-Josef are devoted to the Mosel, where their family have been making wines from some of the oldest Riesling vines in the world for decades. Their old vines produce very, very low yields, but the fabulous quality and intensity of the grapes would be enough to stop anyone in their tracks.
- Angel support has meant that Christopher and Karl-Josef can focus on working carefully with these historic vines to bring you some very special and totally unique wines, rather than letting them fall into the hands of someone who would simply rip them out and build a hotel.
- This stunning Mosel Riesling says everything you need to know about the quality of the region and its vineyards. It all starts with a complex flinty and slatey character, with a touch of perfectly tart, zesty citrus. Then comes a firework display of minerality for a breathtaking finish.

Meet the winemaker - Christopher and Karl-Josef Loewen

With their passion for pure, elegant Riesling and dedication to natural winemaking methods that let the fruit do the talking - this father and son pair are making some of the most in-demand wines in the entire Mosel. And the best bit? They just became your star German signings.

The Loewen’s steep, sloping vineyards encompass some of the very best sites in the entire Mosel, including an astonishing set of 1896-planted vines - ‘the oldest Riesling vines in the world’ says Christopher - that were so highly-revered even then, that the Russian Tsar bought exclusive rights to the wine that was made there.

Working on those steep slopes in the Mosel Valley has its challenges. Mainly, a lot of hard working hours in the vineyards, picking every single grape by hand. But for Christopher - who now runs the show - and Karl-Josef, it’s all worth it to make a truly special wine for people like you to enjoy.

Delicious! So easily drinkable, with lovely flavour.
I’ve quite enjoyed this little wonder, paired with Korma Fishcakes before finishing off the bottle on its own.
So, this wine is really quite quaffable, nothing too bold, nothing too sweet, not oily or smelling (tasting)like a petrol tank…it was just a really endearing blend of light citrus and sour notes, a touch of sweetness with peach and crisp apple.
Quite a head shifter as it where for Riesling!!!
In all honesty, I feel that this is one of the finest wines I have ever tasted and enjoyed. The balance, the style, the quality all shine through like a sunlit evenening. This is Riesling at its very best.

A very palatable German Riesling without being sweet
Lovely - another magic find by naked. I’ll try this one on Rick to see if i can use it to recover him from the Australian ‘smells like diesel fumes’ Riesling experience 😁
Part of the Fine Wine Club box. I’ve had a few Riesling now and not generally a big fan tbh, this one is quite nice though, just a little sweet for me, even though it is dry for a Riesling based on my experience. I have a very low tolerence for sweetness though, so unless you are like me, maybe don’t read too deeply into this review :)
Lovely and fresh for aperitif or to go with some light seafood.

Really enjoyed this one. Great flavour. I'm not usually very good at picking out flavours, but got a lot of citrus (lemon) on this one.
