Passionate young winemaker who crams all his knowledge into every bottle
- Luis’ vineyard is near the hilltop town of Estremoz, in the northern Alentejo region near the Spanish border.
- Its rich soils, unspoiled landscape and bright blue skies are a winemaker’s paradise. The 400m of altitude adds a lovely freshness to the well-ripened grapes.

Luis set up his winery from scratch 12 years ago, and is proud as punch of what he’s built. And now he’s super-excited to be making wines for Angels who share his passion for quality.

Luis Louro's Story
"After working 6 years at Quinta do Mouro with my father, and having completed my winemaking degree in Agro-Industrial Engineering and a internship in Sonoma County - California, in 2004, I decide to pursue MY own wine production project.
I'm fascinated by Alentejo region and Portuguese local grapes varieties. And off course because I grew up watching my father making wines. I have been making wines for 12 by myself, and 18 since I began to help my father.
It´s about country living, being outside, depending on the nature. Every new year is a new challenge. Working one year on the vineyard and another in the cellar (sometimes 2 or 3) to have a wine bottled, and being able to enjoy it…. Sometimes several years after.

My wines are produced in Estremoz area in the northern part of the Alentejo region. This region with about 400 meters altitude allow me to have more balance and freshness on the wines. They are blends of mainly native grapes varietals. All grape production is under our control, with this we make sure that we achieve the pretended quality. The wines show great character and connection with their origin expressing the region, the soils and the varietals, they have nice well ripened fruit flavors, but at the same a nice freshness.
It has been a great Joy to see the development of this company since I started it when I was only 23 years old. The increase of quality over the years, and the recognition by the consumers, makes me feel proud of what I built in the last 12 years and give me enough confidence do keep doing what I most like in life.
Why is Angel funding important for me? Well money always helps, especially in this business were you have a long circle before you see the profits from your work. Now we can have better negotiation with our suppliers. This is the way we wanted to work and Naked Wines has helped it become a reality.
At the moment I’m planting new vineyards and also expanding the winery to double the capacity. Certainly the Angel funding would help financing those investments, and I would plant, buy or lease more vineyards, having guaranty the quantity of grapes that would need to continue expanding production.
I export to lots of countries in the world but none to UK drinkers, which I think are the most important consumers to Europe. Having the opportunity to start selling to the UK is a dream come true. Thank you Naked and thank you Angels."
