Superstar winemaker Daryl Groom has been making his top-class Sonoma Zinfandel for US Angels for going on 8 vintages now, with every single one rating 90% or higher. It’s a bold and deeply complex red from Sonoma’s most-coveted region for high-end Zin, and we’re lucky to have some in the UK.

In classic Dry Creek Valley style, this is a deep, dark, full-bodied Zinfandel with plenty of warmth and intense fruity flavour. You’ll get delectable notes of spice, cocoa, coconut and dark fruits, it’s almost like a rich fruit cake with the density of flavour. Yummy!

It's a BBQ-lovers dream wine, perfect with burgers, smoky lamb kebabs, grilled chicken, halloumi… anything hearty and a little bit charred. Oh and wine purists look away now, but Daryl says on very hot days he’ll often plonk an ice cube into his glass. “It chills the wine, and the richness and higher alcohol content can handle it.”
Best before
Drink it now if you love youth and fruit but know that it will age extremely well for 10 plus years. I think best drinking window is in 2-4 years time.
Serving advice
Just open and enjoy out the bottle. If drinking young a little air will really help the fruit jump out.
Food match
Really any red meats or food with spice like curries. Also awesome with hamburgers and pizza or ribs.

- Meet Daryl.... He has been a winemaker for 35 years, with some of his wines even served at the Oscars and Emmys two years in a row!
- Working as the senior white and red winemaker at Penfolds, his 1986 Penfolds Grange was arguably one of the top 3 Granges ever made - 98 points from Wine Spectator and Robert Parker!
- Daryl LOVES making (and drinking) Shiraz... It's silky, intense and simply delicious he says and the greatest value of all red wines.
