About the wine
As far as Bordeaux goes, this is as lush as it gets
-
For generations, Alexandre’s family have produced some of the finest wines you’ll find in all of Bordeaux from their little corner of St Emilion. A historic region many see as the pinnacle of the red wine world, St Emilion wines are famed for their depth, complexity and age-worthiness but they can cost a pretty penny. So Alexandre set out to make a modern take on his classic Bordeaux that delivers all the quality you look for in a Roquefort red without feeling like you’re downing the family silver.
-
Using top-quality grapes sourced from his own St Emilion sites and some choice neighbouring patches, Alexandre’s delicious Comtesse de Malet Roquefort is crafted by the same expert team who make his family’s flagship wines, with the same care and attention to detail.
-
As far as Bordeaux goes, this is as lush as it gets. On the nose you get subtle black forest gateau aromas which hint at what’s in store. Then take a sip and you’re instantly hit by deep, ripe, lush fruity sensations, which mellow gently leaving a well-balanced structure with hints of cherries, liquorice and cedar spice.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Alexandre de Malet Roquefort
-
The latest in a long line of Bordeaux masters from the legendary Malet-Roquefort family, Alexandre is a big cheese in the world of fine French wine. But first and foremost, he’s just a really passionate winemaker. And he can’t wait to share his passion for St Emilion - and its celebrated wines - with you.
-
Not many winemakers have a family history as rich as Alexandre’s. The Malet-Roqueforts have been making some of the most sought-after wines in the world at their historic St Emilion estate since the 18th century, where they’re the oldest established family in the entire region. In fact, their fame dates all the way back to the start of the last millennium, when a great display at the Battle of Hastings won favour, and a fiefdom, from William the Conqueror.
-
Nowadays, Alexandre blends tradition with innovation and a deep respect for the beautiful terroir he’s forever grateful to have inherited. There’s no doubt that his old family vines are up there with some of the very best in the world. And we’re chuffed to bits to share the incredible spoils with UK wine-lovers like you.
