About the wine
Richard's managed to get his hands on some top-notch fruit for this full-bodied beauty
- I've made this Petit Verdot from parcels usually reserved for more expensive wines - luckily I know the grower well!
- The Petit Verdot grape is a highly-concentrated grape with abundant colour, structure and flavour. The result is a deep, inky red with inviting aromas of blackcurrant, violet and rooibos tea.
- Powerful in structure yet with an incredibly rich and seamless texture, this full-bodied wine shows ripe cocoa-powder tannins and flavours of cinnamon, black olive tapenade and dark berry fruit.

Food match
Due to the rigid tannin structure and concentrated nature of this wine, foods with plenty of weight, protein and fat are your best bets. Consider rich cuts of red meat, well-aged cheese (like Stilton) or wild game. Barbecue, beef stew, roasted rack of lamb and game birds all stand up well to the rich appeal of Petit Verdot.
My suggestions would be: a hearty lamb stew, BBQ Chinese Pork, Porcini Linguine with eggplant and garlic, a scoop of Stilton or a simple beef burger.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Richard Kershaw
- He's a tip-off from Rod and Richard proved he is seriously wine savvy when he became a Master of Wine. Not bad for a man from Sheffield!
- Angel funding gave Richard the jump his one-man business needed, allowing him to tap into South Africa's huge potential to make spectacular wines without hiking up the price.
- Unlike the show-off wineries in South Africa, Richard dreams of owning a shed to make wine in. So you're not paying for fancy cellar doors, marble floors, and Michelin-starred restaurants. Just raw winemaking talent, great grapes, and a shed.
