We regularly benchmark a selection of our wines against up to three comparable wines on the market. The Market Price is based on the price of those wines.
What do we mean by benchmark? We taste them blind against our own wines, or we use our market knowledge (over 40 years between us) to set an industry standard Market Price.

About the wine
Fresh and fragrant red from gloriously pure Sangiovese grapes
- Rosso di Montalcino is an intensely bright and energetic wine with an equally intense and luxurious ruby red colour. It’s a deeply classy, characterful little number that you certainly won’t forget in a hurry.
- The nose is complex with fruity notes of cherries, blackberries and raspberries, all underpinned by delicate floral aromas. The palate is fresh with a crunchy tannic bite and plenty of gloriously concentrated red fruit flavours.
- A champion of the Sangiovese grape, Elia firmly believes in giving its super aromatic quality and heady freshness the attention it truly deserves - he even uses special Slavonian oak barrels to ensure not a millilitre of its authentic character is lost or overpowered by too much oak.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Elia Palazzesi
-
We first tried Elia’s Brunello di Montalcino at a London tasting event and it was so incredibly fresh and elegant that we decided to secure a share for Angels right there and then.
-
His winery is a family affair that’s developed over generations. The land was bought by his great-grandfather in the late 19th century, first farmed by his grandfather, and the very first vines were planted by Elia’s dad in the 1970s. Under Elia’s tutelage, the old family farm has been devoted 100% to grape-growing and become an incredible source of top-quality, organic Montalcino.
-
Elia's been making wines for over 30 years now and he still does much of the work in the vineyard himself. He looks tough when he’s all togged up in his green army t-shirt and khaki pants. But behind that facade he’s an absolute sweetheart and passionate family man who simply loves to make people happy with his wines.

One of the nicest Italian reds I've tasted in a good while. Lots of fruit, velvety smooth and with just enough tannin. Delicious!
We’ve had a lovely Fathers’ Day lunch with a Boeuf Bourguignon followed by a treacle tart, all home made and served with the Elia Palazzesi Rosso di Montalcino 2021
Hope all Fathers and others are having a lovely day
Very, very good!
Nice cherry and raspberry red fruit flavours on the palate, some tannins clearly evident, but still a smooth and reasonably easy drinking wine. Certainly enjoyable.
Would I buy again…? To be honest, at the near £20 price point, I think my money would likely go elsewhere.
Happy Sunday evening all! 🤗
I’m sipping away on this Elia Palazzesi Rosso di Montalcino 2021 tonight to round off the weekend.
Cheers! 🍷

It’s a new one for me, Helen. Andrew, JJ and Russell have all tried it recently though.
Soft and smooth, but no strong signature sangiovese taste IMO. Had hoped for bursting italian sunshine & cherry flavours - missing. Perhaps Montalcino is characteristically soft & smooth; and/or unlike what the Naked "about the wine" page says, in fact needs more time to breathe? Historically I haven't tried much Montalcino red (on grounds of price) to be able to compare.
Wow, that is a lovely super smooth and fruity wine, definitely on my list of favs now, will buy more.
Cherry fruit with a slight spiciness, and well-integrated tannins. Good to go straight from the bottle.
This evening I've opted for a wine that seems to be flying under the radar, the Elia Palazzesi Rosso di Montalcino 2021. I've just had a sip, and it's rather good.
Enjoy your evenings, everyone.

Hope your enjoyment continues then, JJ 🍷😉
I’ll be interested to read your review in due course as I’m yet to open my bottle.

Like Phil, mine's still on the shelf....Bit decadent for me for a Hump Day, especially if letting it breathe means planning ahead on a Wednesday ! Enjoy
