To show you the value you're getting as an Angel...
We regularly benchmark a selection of our wines against up to three comparable wines on the market. The Market Price is based on the price of those wines.
What do we mean by benchmark? We taste them blind against our own wines, or we use our market knowledge (over 40 years between us) to set an industry standard Market Price.
If you buy one of our wines and disagree with the Market Price, or it's not your cup of tea, we'll add a credit to your account. For more info, see our FAQS.

About the wine
Reenen's sumptuous Syrah Cabernet was inspired by 19th century Bordeaux-Rhone blends that broke all the rules in the name of deliciousness
-
Back in the late 1800s, there was an unspoken practice in Bordeaux of bringing in top-class Syrah grapes from the Rhone Valley to add body, structure and plushness to their Cabernet Sauvignon. The resulting wine was so delicious that it inspired French winemakers who emigrated to South Africa to experiment with their own Syrah Cabernet blends. And so a rich tradition in South African winemaking was born.
-
A bridge between the old and the new world, South African wines can be quite European in style but very new world in approach. As a winemaker, you don’t need to worry about breaking the rules… because there are no rules to break! The climate is warm and dry, which suits both these grape varieties to a tee. And you get vineyards at different altitudes which allows the Syrah and Cabernet to ripen at exactly the same time. Perfect for blending.

Reenen’s special new blend is quite Bordeaux in style. With lots of deep, dark fruit flavours - think rich blackcurrants and blackberries - and complex savoury notes on the finish of mushroom and black olive. But while the fruit is dark and intense, the acidity of the Syrah gives this wine a really fresh mouthfeel. It’s incredibly well-balanced. Overall it has the complexity and pedigree of a top French wine but with a bit more South African sunshine. It’s plusher, more generous, more well-rounded. But still super-classy.

Food match
This is an incredibly well-balanced red. Powerful enough to pair with red meats like roast beef or lamb, but light enough that you could also enjoy it with a nice chicken breast or pork chop.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Reenen Borman
Reenen Borman is one of the rising stars of the South Africa wine scene. He made the highest-rated South African red wine ever scored by Tim Atkin, who called him "one of the most talented young winemakers in the world" – high praise from one of the UK’s leading wine boffins.
Reenen’s Boschkloof estate, on the edge of Stellenbosch, is a true family-run winery. Reenen makes the wines, his dad Jacques tends to the grapes, and his mum Marina and wife Marli run the office.
Reenen sells 90% of his wine to restaurants and bars around the world – so the sudden global closures posed an enormous risk to his family-run winery. Your support will be a total game-changer for his small business.
