Benjamin Darnault Pinot Noir 2022
About the wine
Ben's soft and fruity Pinot Noir from the Pyrenees is a game-changer
-
There are some people who think that Pinot Noir from France should be best enjoyed wearing a bow tie and sipped from the finest glassware. Or that you have to pay at least £20 to £30 a bottle to find something worth its salt. Well this one, born in the cool and casual southern French mountains, will change your mind…
-
Few winemakers would think to make a Pinot Noir in the sunny south of France, as it’s a famously thin-skinned and temperamental grape that’s normally more at home in cooler regions like Burgundy. But high up in the Pyrenees, Benjamin Darnault knew the mountain climate of hot sunny days and cool nights would be perfect for making a fresh, easy-drinking Pinot that (best of all) wouldn’t break the bank.
-
You can taste the Mediterranean sunshine in every sip. Ben’s plush new Pinot Noir is like the best bits of old world and new world Pinot combined. It’s light and elegant with silky-soft tannins, but with more ripe red berry flavours than your classic old-school Burgundy. It’s a classy French Pinot that’s perfect for any occasion, from Friday night pizzas to a sit-down dinner party.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Benjamin Darnault
- When Ben left a safe winemaking job in Australia to move back to France with his young family in the noughties, at first he really struggled. The financial crash of 2007/08 clobbered the winery he was working at, so they had to let him go. He couldn’t catch a break.
- That was until Angels freed Ben from the corporate fat cats and transformed his livelihood. Thanks to Angels, Ben was finally able to set up on his own and realise his lifelong dream of putting his own name on the label. Even better, he had an advance on his next vintage!
- With Angel support, Ben has been able to invest more, source even better fruit and establish strong relationships with local growers to improve the quality of his delicious wines year-on-year. With thousands of rave reviews, he’s a bonafide Naked icon.
