Meet Natalia... Chile's Young Winemaker of the Year 2018 and a rising star who's about to go supernova

When our Wine Guy Ray came back from his epic discovery trip to South America, there was only one person he wanted to talk about… Natalia Poblete. A rising star of Chilean wine, she’s earned a burgeoning reputation in her country for her beautifully complex artisan wines. And she was even named Chile’s Young Winemaker of the Year in 2018.

We first tasted Natalia’s kit way back in 2019. It made us stop in our tracks and think ‘ooh, we could be onto something special here’. Fast forward to February 2023 and we asked her if she could knock-up a super-duper-delicious Chilean Merlot for our Angels. One sip and Ray got the little butterflies in his stomach. It was that good.

She’s a super-cool lady too, a bit like a Chilean version of Nina Stocker or Serena Cordero, with an incredible passion for her craft and quiet confidence in her own talent. We feel like we’ve reconnected with a long-lost member of the Naked family. And we’re so lucky to have crossed paths with Natalia when we did, because give it another few years and the whole world will be clamouring for her wines.

The first time we tasted one of Natalia’s wines was way back in 2019. It made us stop in our tracks and think ‘ooh, we could be onto something here’. We took that wine for our Fine Wine Club the next year and made a note of her details for later.
That wine was her Moretta Carignan, a wine she’d made with her best friend Maria Jose. Having met in their first week at university in 2002, where they studied Agronomy, the two have been through it all together. And from that day, they’ve shared a clear dream and passion to make wine which represents the true Chile.
Having slowly developed a love for wine, during her fourth year Natalia began the Enology and Viticulture courses that would change her life. By the year 2007, she and Maria had a clear dream of life, in the future they would make their own wine.
Starting small, over the last 10+ years her free spirited, low-intervention method of winemaking has earned high praise. Natalia even won Chile’s Young Winemaker of the Year 2018. An incredible honour.
And alongside making wines with her bestie, Natalia also started making wines for the historic Casa Bauza, as well as her own side projects. We’re sure she’s a big support for her winemaker husband when he’s making his kit too.
In February 2023, our Wine Guy Ray went on a top-priority mission to find our Angels a new super-duper-delicious Chilean Merlot. Remembering the wine from 2019, the very first winemaker he met was Natalia, and the instant he laid eyes on what she’d made for him. He knew she’d nailed it.
A super-cool lady, Natalia feels like a long-lost member of the Naked family. Like a Chilean version of Nina Stocker or Serena Cordero, you got a sense of her incredible passion and quiet confidence in her own talent.
The sky’s the limit for Natalia, and we’re so lucky to have crossed paths with her when we did. Because give it another few years and the whole world will be clamouring for her wines. They’re that good.
