Julien is the latest in a long line of Cauvards to run his family estate, dating back to the 17th century. It’s located in the heart of Burgundy near the region’s winemaking capital – Beaune.
-
Naturally, given winemaking DNA runs deep in his veins, Julien handles every part of the process – from vine to bottle – to ensure each wine he makes reflects Burgundy’s terroir and its vintage.
-
His winemaking philosophy is as clean as his wines – focused on sustainability and a respect for the environment. He uses natural fertilisers and energy-efficient concrete tanks to keep all his bottles au naturale.

Julien Cauvard's Story
Julien's Story
Beaune is a special place for the Cauvard family, known as the capital of Burgundy wines. It’s been in their hearts for generations, as home to their 19-hectare estate.
Henri Cauvard, Julien's father, played a big role in promoting Beaune wines for many years. Serving as the head of the appellation’s management body, along with fellow producers he worked hard to shine a spotlight on the fantastic wines from this beautiful region.
While Beaune is globally recognized as the heart of Burgundy, its wines often take a backseat to the more famous neighboring regions like Pommard and Meursault. The Cauvard family has dedicated themselves to changing that by showcasing the high quality of Beaune’s wines.
Now, Julien Cauvard is at the helm of the family estate. Growing up surrounded by vines and barrels, it seemed like a natural path for him, but he initially explored other avenues before being drawn back to his true passion: Burgundy wines. In 2006, he returned to the family estate, and after a few vintages alongside his supportive parents, he was ready to take the lead.
The Cauvard estate has embraced sustainable farming practices, shifting away from chemical fertilisers in favor of natural compost. They take great care in managing their vineyards, ensuring that local flora and fauna thrive alongside their vines. The grapes are meticulously sorted by hand, selecting only the healthiest berries to craft exceptional wines.
Julien is also committed to environmental preservation, opting for energy-efficient concrete tanks that help maintain perfect temperatures during fermentation. Staying true to Burgundian traditions, Domaine Cauvard ages its wines in oak barrels for 12 to 15 months before bottling them right at the estate. It’s all about crafting wines that reflect the unique character of Beaune.
