He's a trend setting, rule breaking Grüner Veltliner specialist who won't compromise on style
- Herbert has been at the reigns of his family estate in the Weinviertel (Austria's most sought after winemaking region) since he was just twenty. Another twenty years on and he's one of the most sought after Veltliner producers in the world, grabbing the interest of big shot wine critics like Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson.
- Dedicated to the sustainability of his wines, Herbert uses biodynamic farming to make sure he's feeding back into the land rather than purely taking from it. It's all about keeping it natural and ignoring passing fads. You won't catch Herbert compromising his style for anyone.
- He lets the land set the trends for him, creating sophisticated natural wines that speak to the robust structure and bright zippy flavours that make Weinviertel wines so vibrant and distinctive.

Herbert Zillinger's Story
We love working in and with nature. It is very important to us to create a great product from nature that can also be used to bring joy to others. We are connoisseurs and quality fanatics, working with like-minded people is something wonderful.
The birth of our 3 kids encouraged us to switch to biodynamic farming, to run an agriculture that is suitable for our grandchildren. We want a healthy environment for ourselves, our children and our employees. Therefore our wines are completely natural. Nothing is added or removed in the entire vinification process. If necessary, only a minimum of SO2 is added before the filling for stabilization.
We were voted VINEUS Trendsetter of the Year, our Veltliners are always among the best in the country in the most important wine guides, we received great praise from Jancis Robinson and Robert Parker.
“… Zillinger is one of the very best Veltliner producers in the Weinviertel, and I can only recommend to check out his vibrant and characterful style. Just do not expect any easy-drinking tutti frutti wines here. These are serious wines made for aging and sophisticated menus.” - Parker’s Wine Advocate taster Stephan Reinhardt
“… underpriced and under-celebrate… I am very impressed by Herbert Zillinger's Grüner Veltliner… The real discovery as far as I am concerned is Herbert Zillinger, whose whites are exceptionally good .” - Jancis Robinson
