Daniele Artioli's Story
Daniele's Story
I come from a farming family. We own vineyards and we have been producer partner of Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara since the forties, from my great-grandfather. Since I was a little child, the countryside and the agricultural sector have been part of my life so I decided to join the agricultural school. I then got passionate about the transformation of the grape in wine. I also graduated in Viticulture and Oenology at University of Bologna to increase my knowledge. The opportunity to transform my passion for oenology in a job jumped in just after the graduation when I started to work at Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara. I began my career at the winery five years ago from the basis: before in the quality control department during the harvest, then as a cellar man, then as analyst at the laboratory and finally I became the wine maker in charge of the bottled wines.
I am a farmer's son, I have been among the vineyards since I was a little kid. Each year I was looking forward to the harvest season and to that moment when me and my grandfather arrived at Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara to bring the grapes to the co-operative. So it was natural for me to implement my wish to remain linked to my territory and its wine-making traditions
In my opinion, the nice thing about being a winemaker is that I have to do with the raw material. Grapes change every year and wine is a product constantly evolving. The job of the winemaker, even though we can try to standardize it, is always different. Each year I have to understand and identify the strengths of the grape and be able to make good use of it. This is very challenging for me.
My secret is really simple and hard at the same time: I work with grapes grown by our different producer partners. Each of them have their own feature and strengths and just together they create a perfect wine. Last but not least the know-how of the tradition together with the young innovation together with the passion all our producer partners is definitely the secret mix of our wines.
In my opinion, to define a wine of high quality it must make you want to drink it. Producing complicated wines just make them tricky, it's just not my style. When different kinds of wines are served to the consumers, I am fully satisfied when my wine is the first to finish and the first to be ordered again. This means I was able to create an easy drinking wine and a perfect companion for social moments.
The moment when Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara informed me that I would have become the responsible of the bottled wine in the same winery where I used to bring the grape with my grandfather when I was a kid, was definitely one of the best moment of my career until now.
Working with Angels will help us to have more tools to promote and let people know Pignoletto wine to the largest possible number of customers. My repay will be a moment of pure happiness when you drink a glass of our Pignoletto!
